Hey, friends!
This is another grammar post!If you want to watch the video lesson about this post, check it out!
Today we will focus on daily routine. I will show you all the vocabulary you are going to need to talk about your daily routine.
What is a “daily routine” These are activities that you do every day, for example, you brush your teeth, have breakfast or take a shower. These are activities you do every day.
In previous posts, you have already learned about simple present. When we talk about our daily routine, we use the simple present to do so.
To talk about your routine, it is important that you prepare the vocabulary to do so. I will divide the vocabulary into 3 parts:
Activities
Connectors
Time

To talk about your routine, study these words, verbs, and expressions.
TIME
This part is very simple. If you are going to say the exact time you do the activities. For example,
I get up AT 7 a.m.
you will always need the preposition AT. If the time is not exact, it is approximate; you can use the preposition around.
I get up around 7.a.m (more or less 7, sometimes 7:10, sometimes 7:15, sometimes 7, around 7)
I wake up around 6 a.m every day, how about you?
Connectors
Now that you learned the activities and how to indicate the time, we need to connect sentences. Today I will introduce some words that can help you connect your phrases, ok?
The words we will use today are:
Then
And
When
After that
After school/dinner/lunch
In the morning, in the afternoon, at night
On weekends
These words are very important because they will help you organize the activities you do. Let’s try to create a routine and use these expressions.
I wake up around 6:30 a.m. Then, I get up at 7 a.m, brush my teeth, take a shower and get dressed. After that, I have breakfast and use my phone. When I finish breakfast, I take the bus to work. I start work at 9 a.m. I have meetings, talk on the phone and prepare documents and reports. At 1 p.m I have lunch. After lunch, I go back to work. I finish work at 6 p.m. After work, I go to the gym, I like to exercise. After that, I go home. I get home around 8 p.m. Then I have dinner, take a shower and watch Tv. I go to bed around 11 p.m
On weekends, I don’t work. I usually stay home or go out with my friends.
This is a basic daily routine. Ok? Now I will show you a second routine, but in the 3rd person in the singular, alright? Here we go:
Jackie is very busy! She gets up at 6 a.m every morning. Then she brushes her teeth and gets dressed. After that, she has a quick breakfast and goes to the gym. After the gym, she takes a shower and gets dressed to go to work. She drives to work. She gets to work at 9 a.m. At work, she has meetings, talks on the phone and prepares documents. At 1 p.m she has lunch. Sometimes she has business lunches with her clients. After lunch, she goes back to work. She finishes work around 7 p.m. Then she goes home. She gets home around 8 p.m. She has dinner, watches TV and sometimes she likes to read. After that, she takes a shower and goes to bed around 11 p.m.
